My wife and I looked this over as we were getting the listing together.  I said really good restoration, my wife said original.  It is really tough to say.  None of the screws or bolts are marred from being removed and installed.  The motor tag looks like it has never been removed and the paint meets up to it perfect.  The face plate grommet and the recoil grommet are perfect and tough to find for a restoration.  The plugs and pistons both give the appearance of being run once.  The plugs are NGK which I do not think would have been original.  The motor rolls over smooth with good compression but I have not started it.  It belongs in a museum instead of the back of a boat.  It does have a oil leak I believe around one of the front screw holes at the split line of the case.   The few drops I saw were clean oil.  It also has a few paint scuffs around the mid section.  They do not stand out, you have to look for them.  I took lots of pictures so the buyer can make their own assessment.  The motor will clean up some from where it is at.  There is dust in different areas but was cleaning up easily with a little dawn and water. 

The person I purchased this and a 10hp that is just as pretty from an estate sale.  They were the only two outboards there and he did not get any history on them.  These two motors are the nicest examples I have ever seen of these vintage motors.  The 10 hp will be listed shortly after this one.  

This motor uses a pressure gas tank which is not included but I do have some available if you need one.

$50 crating fee included in the shipping total shown in this listing.

Local inspection and pickup is free from our business in SW Michigan, Plainwell.

This motor weighs 56 pounds, ship weight is at 96 due to the weight of the shipping crate. 

Please only serious reasonable offers.  This looks great at the entrance to our business and I will be a little bummed out when it goes away!
